Kids Love the Beach!  Seattle to North Beach just a
Two and a Half hour drive

Kids can find endless fun on the beach: wading in the surf, flying kites,
collecting shells, building sand castles, climbing on beach logs, searching
through the dune grass, digging in the sand, and chasing the birds.

Here are some excursions from the North Beach area (north of Ocean
Shores) that my kids have particularly enjoyed:

> Take the kids to Copalis Rock or Point Grenville at an extreme low tide,
where they can touch the big purple and orange starfish clinging to the
rocks.

> Rent an electric boat in Ocean Shores and tour its canals and Duck Lake.

> Visit the Quinault National Fish Hatchery, where the kids will learn about
salmon and see 80,000 hatchlings swimming in each basin.  Take the tour
and hear about all the bear sightings.

> Take a short hike on the Lake Quinault North Shore Road to the Big
Cedar - a 1,000 year old hollow tree the kids can walk into.

> Watch the kids roll down the steep sand banks at Crescent Bay near
Westport.

> Swim at the Grays Harbor YMCA in Hoquiam with its fabulous indoor
waterpark.

> Play on the sand banks on the south shore of the Quinault River above
Lake Quinault, climbing over the rocks and throwing sticks in the river.

> Climb up on the big rocks of the Ocean Shores North Jetty and watch
the big ocean waves roll in.
