CRABBING ON HOOD CANAL
Hood Canal crabbing is great fun for the whole family. Drop your crab pots
in Triton Cove and explore the Hood Canal Fjord while you wait in
anticipation of how many crabs will appear in the pot. While you are
waiting, and when fishing season is open, hook a chum salmon or chinook
(king), or coho (silver) salmon as it passes through the Hood Canal on it’s
way to Hoodsport Hatchery or the Skokomish River. Or, while your crab
pots are filling up just explore the beauty of the pristine beaches along the
shore or head back to the Triton Cove Beach Home and relax your day away.
When you have given the crabs enough time to find their way into your pots
(turkey legs are a good bait), the anticipation will build as you predict how
many “keepers” you will find in your pot. As you pull up the line, heads
hang over the edge of the boat and eyes peer deep into the water to catch
the first glimpse of the crab pot. It’s like pulling up a treasure chest, but
the treasure is a Red Rock or Dungeness crab feast for dinner. Take your
treasure home and boil the crab, crack it and enjoy fresh Hood Canal crab
dipped in butter while sitting on the deck of the Triton Cove Beach Home.
