RECONNECT WITH NATURE AND FAMILY
Rialto Beach House is a traditional log home built in 1987 on ten
wooded acres, fronting on the Quillayute River. The house itself
has an open floor plan with a loft and cathedral ceiling. The
modern kitchen is equipped with a Jenn-air cook top that allows
for great informal cooking and dining. Our idea of Rialto Beach
House as a vacation rental was to share this ideal setting for
meeting: with your family, with nature, with each other, or even
with oneself again.
The house is equipped with a Vermont castings wood burning
stove (wood provided). Trips into the woods should all have the
sound of a crackling fire. Our comfy couch is a great place to
curl up with a book or craft project. This large couch also pulls
out to a queen size bed. There are three beds in the house, a
full size bed in the Border room (named for the park boundary
which is near by). The twin bed in the loft nook has a sky light
right above the bed to better view your own private slice of
heaven. The queen size bed in the main loft is tucked under the
massive timbers of the Rialto Beach House, where one can relax
and feel secure. One of the things I like best about this house is
that all day long I’m out in the elements hiking, biking, beach
combing, fishing or exploring, then at night after a hot shower,
all the roughness of the outdoors disappears. One can sleep so
soundly.
Our kitchen boasts a Jenn-air cook top and range. These are
terrific appliances. Ours has grill and griddle attachments for a
round of burgers for dinner or pancakes for breakfast. Nothing
is better to repair tired family or relationships like good food
shared around a table together. There are cupboards stocked
with most of the common spices, table settings for 8, pots, pans,
and utensils. Really, the only thing you have to bring is your
food.
Outside on the porch is the centre of the house, there are
Adirondack chairs to sit and observe. Our outdoor weather
station shows humidity, temperature, and barometer. Please
use the chalk board to record these weather conditions plus any
flora and fauna sighting. Past sightings include, Sand Hill
Cranes, Great Horned Owls, Roosevelt Elk, Eagles, Weasels, and
Hummingbirds. Also outside is the large fire pit. Here guests
gather for the time honored tradition of poking at the fire.
The appeal of Rialto Beach House is that we didn’t fill the night
up with lights and videos. Instead, bring your family to a place
where you can see each other by firelight, see that there are
stars in the sky, and yes, the Milky Way. It's not just a candy bar.
We as a nation are no longer enjoying our beautiful unspoiled
national parks, instead we use videos to entertain ourselves.
Nature Deficit Disorder: “It's the cumulative effect of
withdrawing nature from children's experiences, but not just
individual children. Families too can show the symptoms --
increased feelings of stress, trouble paying attention, feelings
of not being rooted in the world.”
Take back this side of yourself and your family, come and enjoy
an interlude in nature.
