| SUMMER ON SCHWEITZER MOUNTAIN Activities abound on Schweitzer Mountain in the summer: hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and the chairlift ride. PICKNICKING, HIKING, & WILDFLOWERS The chairlift takes you from the village high up on the mountain. Below you the slope drops away at a steep angle, while you ride along at the height of the treetops. Fields of glistening white beargrass flowers cover the mountainside. Bring a meal and picnic at the top of the world with a grand view of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountains that you will never tire of. Marmots will pop out of their holes, looking for a scrap of food (we threw them shrimp crackers from Seattle's Chinatown). Nearby a short trail leads along the ridge through a field of purple, white, and yellow wildflowers. MOUNTAIN BIKING Schweitzer is covered in mountain biking trails. The chairlift is equipped to convey bicycles, so you can start your exploration at the top and work down. Enjoy the wildflowers, verdant mountain forest, edible berries, and frequent wildlife sightings. http://www.MountainHorseAdventures.com |
