| SILVERWOOD THEME PARK The Pacific Northwest is fortunate to have a world-class amusement and water park in its backyard: Silverwood Theme Park near Sandpoint, Idaho. The park's best features are Rollercoaster Alley, the extensive Boulder Beach water park, and the big assortment of kiddie rides. Silverwood is a great value versus the southern California theme parks: Northwest visitors can drive rather than fly and the admission price is reasonable with discount tickets available at Costco. You also spend far less time standing in line: both because the crowds are smaller and the waterpark has attractions immediately available without waiting. Silverwood is open six months of the year from the beginning of May to the end of October. Part of that time the park is open weekends only. The water park is open only in the three summer months. ROLLER COASTER ALLEY Silverwood collection of rollercoasters includes two old-fashioned and attractive wooden rollercoasters: Tremors and the Timber Terror. These both start off with an awesome near vertical drop that send the train of cars running at 60 mph. Added in 2009 is the absolutely terrifying Aftershock. This ride suspends you from the track with your feet dangling in the air and then drops you straight down forwards and backwards, swings you through loops every which way. After the first drop you don't know when you are upside down and when not - completely disorienting. BOULDER BEACH WATER PARK On a busy day, we end up spending most of our afternoon at the water park. Several attractions are immediately available without any waiting: the two big wave pools, the lazy river, and the two play areas for kids. More exhilirating attractions are available too: water slides that run through dark tunnels, drop you nearly vertically at great speed, or slosh your group back and forth through a winding race course. OTHER ATTRACTIONS Many other attractions are on offer for all ages: a ride on the authentic 1915 steam train, bumper cars, a ferris wheel that gives you a view of the park, a magic show, a talented juggler, a log flume ride, lots of kiddie rides, a playground, ice cream parlours and restaurants, merry-go-round, ice palace show, and shops.
