| Monday, August 27, 2001 We spent a week in Victoria on a home exchange back in 2001. The house came with a trampoline for the kids and a friendly cat. The highlight of any trip to Victoria must be Butchart Gardens, the premiere destination garden in the Northwest. You would have to travel to the East Coast (such as Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia) or Europe to find anything comparable. Several themed gardens are on display: the amazing Sunken Garden - the oldest section begun in 1904, the Japanese Garden, the Italian Water Garden, Rose Garden, acres of flowers, several fountains, and beautiful landscaping. In the summer, the garden features evening fireworks. In winter, the most amazing and extensive Christmas light display covers the gardens. Wednesday, December 26, 2001 We returned to Victoria the same year at Christmas for the light display and imaginative decorations. Unfortunately, few of those pictures turned out well. We'll have to go back! Butchart Gardens http://www.ButchartGardens.com by Bob Kelly http://www.BobsPacificBeachHouse.com |
